Checklist – Things to Remember When You Buy Protein Supplement

Majority of us who workout to keep our body fit and in shape, use protein supplements. However it is often confusing when it comes to deciding which brand is the best or which Supplement is the best. We often look for new supplements that we think will completely transform our body. Here is a checklist of things to remember when you want to buy your Supplement. If you remember these guidelines you will never falter in the Protein Supplement you buy and will always end up with a supplement that provides good value for the money you spend. Following are the criteria:-

Protein to Carbohydrate ratio:
A good quality and pure Protein Supplement will always have Carbohydrates to Proteins in the ratio of 1: 5. It means for every gram of Carbohydrates, there should be 5 grams of Proteins. A good quality Protein Supplement will never have more than 4 grams of Carbohydrates. Always remember to check total Carbohydrates, if it is more than 4 grams think twice before buying that supplement.

Whey Protein Isolate plus Whey Protein Concentrate:
Always check the major sources of your Protein Supplements. The major source used is written first followed by less used source. Always select a Protein Supplement which has Whey Protein Isolate as the major source followed by Whey Protein Concentrate. This is because Isolate form of Protein is the purest form in which the Protein is pure to the extent of 90{dc95c22c9cec96e4b887cb128e750bad45acd6bf2ff75ab29d9ade61e84bfb51}. The advantage of having this with Concentrate form of Protein is that something called as Sub-Fractions in your Protein are destroyed in the Isolate form but are maintained in the Concentrate form. These Sub-Fractions are important from the point of view of immunity. They maintain your immunity after a heavy workout session. So make sure your supplement is a derivative of Whey Protein Isolate followed by Whey Protein Concentrate.

Method of Filtration:
There are 2 methods used for Filtration. They are the Micro-Filtration method and the Ion-Exchange method. Always make sure that your Protein Supplement is Micro-Filtered and not Ion-Exchanged. When your supplement is filtered using the Ion exchange method, the natural Protein structure is destroyed and also the sub-fractions are destroyed. However, the Micro-Filtration method retains both the natural structure of Protein and its Sub-Fractions. If both the methods are used, then in an ideal scenario, Micro-Filtration should be followed by Ion-Exchange.

These are some of the factors that you should consider before buying your Protein Supplement so that you don’t end up with a second grade product or a low quality supplement. If you carefully observe your supplement container, you will see all the above mentioned details mentioned on the container. In case you do not find them on the container you can visit the company’s website and find out about the above mentioned details.
